The aim of the project is to explore current understandings and expectations of global citizenship education across the university, and to develop and pilot a university-wide award for students and staff. The student global award requires completion of three elements, namely, (1) a global citizenship unit (2) a language course and (3) evidence of international/intercultural experience. This will run under the MMU Futures umbrella and students who complete all three sections of the Visa will have this recorded on their university transcript, adding to their employability as globally competent “world-class professionals”.
A parallel, but separately designed, initiative for staff who are interested in developing international/intercultural skills and having this recognised within the university will be developed and embedded within current staff development systems. The project involves representatives from every faculty in MMU collaborating with relevant central departments to ensure that the global award is useful, widely recognized and sustainable.
